The Values of the Corporation are to:

Our Objectives

The Objectives of the Corporation are:

  • To provide a Centre which Aboriginal and Islander children can use, under the supervision of adults, for the actual learning of social, health and practical habits required to become responsible members of the community;
  • To encourage parents to become interested and involved in the centre;
  • To preserve the historic and traditional culture of the Aboriginal and Islander people of Australia and in particular of the Mount Isa area;
  • To assist Aboriginal and Islanders by promoting childcare centres for their children;
  • To promote knowledge and understanding of the special problems of Aboriginal and Islanders generally and also in particular in the fields of education, health, recreation and related matters;
  • To increase the quality of life of frail aged Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people by providing culturally appropriate care in the community, so that these people can live at home for as long as possible;
  • To provide innovative, quality, safe and flexible services to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children, youth, families and the aged and frail within Mount Isa and regional communities;
  • To cooperate with funding agencies by providing full information to such agencies on all aspects of the operations of the association.

Membership of the Association is open to adult Aboriginal persons who have attained the age of eighteen (18) years and are normally resident in the Mount Isa area (for six (6) months or more), or any such other locations as the Committee shall from time to time determine.

We achieve these objectives through the following:

  • Exceeding expectations as far as quality of service is concerned.
  • Efficient use and management of all Corporation resources and equipment.
  • Maintaining a high level of staff quality, motivated by an environment that encourages and rewards input, responsibility and original ideas.

The contribution of all staff is vital to achieving these Corporation goals.

Our Aims

The stated Aims of Injilinji Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Children and Youth Services have been highlighted as follows:

The short-term aim is to develop Orana Park, which is held in trust by the Corporation under an arrangement with the Queensland Department of Communities and operational since 1988.

The long-term aim is to develop, in consultation and negotiation with the Traditional Owners (Kalkadoon peoples) the land for extension of the Aged Care Centre and development of recreational and educational space for use by all youth and children and for the overall benefit of the whole community.

A further aim is to create a better understanding of all cultures, to assist and support Aboriginal children and youth to gain worthwhile employment, build confidence and belief in themselves and provide support to assist them attain a sense of belonging within the wider community, and encourage them to take their rightful place within the community.
