Injilinji Aged Care was privileged to welcome a visit by the interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner, Ms Andrea Kelly, on 29 October 2024.

The Commissioner enjoyed morning tea with Injilinji Resident Elders and staff of Injilinji Aged Care. As a memento of her visit, the Injilinji Board presented Ms Kelly with an original painting, Tjawarn Songline by Mount Isa artist, Sheree Blackley (pictured left, with CEO Pattie Lees, Resident Elder Charlotte De Satge and Commissioner Andrea Kelly).

Ms Kelly’s appointment is a first step in addressing Recommendation 49 of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, which recommended a statutory First Nations Aged Care Commissioner to ensure culturally safe, tailored and flexible aged care services for First Nations people.

Ms Kelly is a Warumungu and Larrakia woman with decades of experience working in the interests of better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
