Research Collaboration Project with James Cook University

In July 2022, Injilinji Aged Care entered into a Research Collaboration Agreement with James Cook University for the purpose of Piloting a continuous quality improvement framework to strengthen quality of care in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residential aged care. The Agreement was scheduled to end in June 2024; however, a variation has allowed the project to run through until December 2024.

Integral to the project is the association with Dr. Yvonne Hornby-Turner, Research Fellow – Healthy Ageing Research Team [HART]. Yvonne is the driving force in developing a process which will benefit, not only Injilinji Aged Care, but also other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residential aged care services.

Yvonne and the HART Team facilitated several workshops for Injilinji Aged Care staff including Healthy Aging, Dementia and behaviour, Safety and quality in Aged Care and a Serious Incident Report Scheme session.

Aunty Val Wallace presented two Lateral Violence workshops over the past twelve months, providing education for staff on lateral violence in the workplace. Lateral violence is the modern-day term for a group of age-old behaviours (e.g., organisational conflict, malicious gossiping, social exclusion etc.).

All staff participated in training workshops facilitated by the HART Team, with ongoing in-house training provided by the Injilinji Aged Care leadership team.
